金谷ホテルの創始者、金谷善一郎は金谷家の9代目として1852年（嘉永5年）10月8日に生まれました
。日光東照宮の楽人で笙（しょう）を担当していました。気骨と実行力のある人柄で、丁寧、几帳面。子煩悩な面もあったそうです。
