54：金谷の原点・四軒町　　　ーThe origin of Kanaya: Shikenchoー

四軒町（しけんちょう）と読みます。
It is pronounced "Shikencho"

日光の西町（にしまち）地区にあって、現在では本町という町名になっています。
四軒町は寛永年間に東照宮の楽人屋敷が四軒置かれたことに由来し、楽人町とも称されました。
幕末期には社家1人、楽人12人、奉行配下役人15人が居住したと言われます。
創業者の金谷善一郎は、日光東照宮の楽人であったことからここに住み、後に金谷カッテージインをこの場所で開業します。
現在は、江戸時代の武家屋敷の建築様式をそのまま残す建築遺産「金谷ホテル歴史館」として一般に公開しております。

Shikencho is located in the Nishimachi district of Nikko, and is now called Honmachi.Shikencho was named after the four houses for musicians from Toshogu Shrine that were built there during the Kan'ei era, and was also called Gakujincho.
The founder, Zenichiro Kanaya, was a musician at Nikko Toshogu Shrine and lived here, later opening Kanaya Cottage Inn here.
It is currently open to the public as the Kanaya Hotel History Museum, an architectural heritage site that preserves the architectural style of a samurai residence from the Edo period.
